Who is God? | The Spirit | AJ Plaizier
Monday Oct 24, 2022
Monday Oct 24, 2022
This week we are talking about possibly the most mysterious person of the Trinity: God the Holy Spirit. Depending on your background or personality, you may love the idea of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Church, or it may make you a bit uncomfortable. However, AJ is here to remind us that we are the ones who submit to the Holy Spirit, not the other way around. We can’t sweep Him under a rug or treat him as our cosmic genie. He is our Comforter and Helper, but that comfort and help comes from being willing to step out and receive what He has for us. What is the Spirit of God saying to you today?

Who is God? | The Son | Jason Parker
Monday Oct 17, 2022
Monday Oct 17, 2022
Continuing in our series, “Who is God?” this week we ask the question, “Who is Jesus?” Have you ever found that there are conflicting ideas of Jesus floating around? Some think of Jesus being all about truth, right and wrong, only bringing correction. Others picture Jesus as being all about grace, only forgiving and accepting us just as we are. However, Jason teaches us from John 4, Jesus is full of grace and truth. He is the only one who can quench our spiritual thirst because he has all of the truth that realigns us and the grace that draws and empowers us.

Who is God? | Week 1 | Jason Parker
Tuesday Oct 11, 2022
Tuesday Oct 11, 2022
We are launching a new sermon series called, “Who is God?” This week, Jason invites us to wrestle with some really challenging aspects of God’s character. We are turning to Genesis 22 where God asks Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, the child who God promised to Abraham. Often God tests us in ways that we don’t like or understand, and he lets us sit in tensions that we don’t want to be in. But, there is a blessing at the other side, a deeper revelation of who God is.

Baggage Claim | Jason Parker
Monday Oct 03, 2022
Monday Oct 03, 2022
Do you ever feel like you’ve plateaued in your relationship with Jesus? Like you’re not experiencing the full life that Jesus offers? That is exactly the problem that Jason is addressing in this standalone sermon, “Baggage Claim.” We all have baggage that we accumulate through life, whether it comes from choices we’ve made or things that have happened to us. However, too often we accept Jesus’ forgiveness without also claiming the freedom that we have in Him. In order to run the race that God has for us, in order to love and serve our community well, we need to “throw off” all of the baggage that slows us down like Hebrews 12 says. What is God calling you to surrender to Him?

This Sunday marked 3 years of Coastal Church. Those years are filled with stories of transformed lives. However, the journey has not been easy. This week, Jason reminds us that we can expect resistance before, while, and after lives are being changed. The kingdom of darkness is going down swinging. So, we can take heart while experiencing resistance while working for the Kingdom of God, because resistance often coincides with the powerful work of God.

Have you ever caught yourself thinking that God gives a little bit extra Holy Spirit to certain people and those people are the ones who are supposed to “do stuff” in the church? A lot of us can find ourselves thinking something along those lines. We’re really good at self-disqualifying. However, AJ Plaizier, lead pastor of Yarmouth Wesleyan, is here to remind us that God has called each of us to good works. God saves us by grace, and that grace overflows into action in our lives. What is God calling you to do?

Many of us want the blessings of God and the benefits of following Jesus. Fewer of us want to order our lives in the way that Jesus did. This week Jason Parker is reminding us that we cannot have the ministry of Jesus without the life of Jesus. As we step into a busy fall, we have to remember to leave margin for God to work in and through us, not out of duty or obligation, but because we need His grace everyday.

Renew | Week 1 | Jason Parker
Tuesday Sep 06, 2022
Tuesday Sep 06, 2022
This week we are kicking off our new series called “Renew.” It’s all about renewing our vision to take Jesus into every community of South-West Nova Scotia; not changing that vision but falling in love with it again. Often, we can forget that our mission is not just for us as a church, but for us as individuals. Jason took us to John 17 where Jesus prays for his followers, which includes those of us who follow him today. There Jesus gives us a definition of eternal life, which is the very thing that we need, and thankfully, it’s what Jesus offers to us. That’s why we need to take Jesus into every community, because he is offering eternal life to anyone who would receive it.
